Kids on a busAll Friends Summer Camps are geared towards providing campers with enriching, rewarding, and entertaining experiences in an environment guided by the Quaker principles of tolerance, equality, integrity, and community. 
Fun themes, field trips, games, educational activities and adventures are planned each week.  The program is developed and supervised by a staff of professional educators in a caring community. All nine weeks are available to K-5th grade students, and three weeks are offered for 6th - 8th grade students.

Schedule
  • Nine week-long Kid Camps will be available from June 16th to Aug. 15th.
  • Three week-long Middle School Camps will run from July 21st to Aug. 8th.
  • Three Summer Science Camps are available from June 16th through July 3rd.
  • Camps begin at 8:30am and end at 3:30pm, Monday-Friday.
After-camp Care
For our working parents we provide extended day care, activities and supervision for campers until 5:30pm. The cost is $6.00/day and parents are billed at the end of the camp.

Meals/Snacks
  • Campers need to bring their own lunch and drink in an insulated container.
  • The camp will provide healthy morning and afternoon snacks each day.

Facilities
All of the Summer Camp Programs will be held at the State College Friends School located on University Drive. The school and its grounds offer many amenities that make it ideal for a summer camp.

The large air-conditioned Community Room provides ample space for games. Spacious classrooms, a library and a complete kitchen are available for use by the campers. The 3+ acre school grounds feature outdoor courts, athletic fields, playground equipment, fish pond, a running trail and a giant sandbox. A more intimate protected courtyard area for smaller groups, picnics and games is also on site.

In addition, field trips are planned for each camp, utilizing the resources of our local community.

Staff
The Friends School is dedicated to providing the best staff possible ensure that all of our camps are fun, exciting, and safe.

Our Camp Director, Michele Rivera, founder of Artistic Horizon and the after school coordinator at Friends School, will bring her creative experience to our camps.

Other counselors, special presenters and specialists, many of whom are members of the Friends School community, will share their unique talents and expertise to the program.

Ages

  • Summer Kid Camps are open to all area students, ages 5-12, who have completed Kindergarten and have not completed the fifth grade. 
  • Middle School Summer Camps provide three week-long camps to area students entering 6th through 8th grades.
  • Summer Science Camps for K-1st, 2nd-3rd, and 4th-5th.

Themes

June 16-20:
Summer Start
(Kid Camp). Kick off the summer with activities, crafts, games, food, and events that make summer fun. Kaleidoscope (Science, 4th-6th grades). Explore the physics of light through experiments, demonstrations, hands-on projects and more.

June 23-27:
Staying Fit
(Kid Camp). Learn about good health and exercise while having a pile of fun. The basics of good nutrition and healthy lifestyles are presented in an easy to digest fashion.
The Toymakers (Science, 2nd-3rd grades). Mechanical energy is introduced and demonstrated through simple machines and toys. Students will then make their own.

June 30 - July 3:
USA Hooray
(Kid Camp). Campers will "journey" across the USA from PA to CA to learn what makes the US special. Bubbles to Rainbows (Science, k-1 grade). Solar energy and light are the themes for this week's projects and activities.

July 7-11:
All About The Arts
(Kid Camp). Campers create works of art using several types of media. This camp includes a trip to the Central PA. Arts Fest.

Camp Themes

July 14-18:
Wonderful Wetlands
(Kid Camp). Through activities, field trips, and games, children will explore the importance of our wetlands and the animals living there.

July 21-25:
Tell Me a Story
(Kid Camp). Books and the school library serve as a focal point for this camp as children learn acting techniques and work together to present "Readers Theatre" productions at the end of the camp.
Let's Get Cooking (MS Camp). Campers explore the interesting world of food. Learn how to make several delicious dishes.

July 28-Aug. 1:
Dino World
(Kid Camp). Step back in time and learn about the creatures that roamed the earth. Musical Theatre (MS Camp). Singing and acting techniques as you work to a Musical production at the end of the week.

Aug 4-8:
Food Dynamics
(Kid Camp). Campers will learn to make healthy food choices and learn about the importance of food for our bodies.
Get into the Music (MS Camp). Are you learning an instrument? Want to try playing with others? In this camp, you will work together to become a band and perform.

Aug 11-15:
Fun and Games
(Kid Camp). Play old favorites and learn new games. Not only will campers be exposed to a variety of games, they will also have the opportunity to create their own.

  • $160 per week for kid (K-5th) Camps
  • $200 per week for (6th–8th) Middle School Camps
  • $200 per week for Science Camps
