Physical Education (Teachers Todd, Bobbie & Bailey)
6th - 8th grades together
  • Fall/Spring: Run/Walk program, Soccer, Softball, Kickball, Ultimate Frisbee, etc.
  • Winter: YMCA, Basketball, Volleyball, Swimming, Weights & Cardiovascular

Elective Courses (Teachers Todd, Bobbie, Bailey & Ali Mirsky)
In addition to the subjects listed in the curriculum, students will be taking part in elective classes throughout the school year. These courses will involve in-depth extra-curricular learning, centered around student-driven projects with teachers as facilitators. Art and music education will be incorporated into some of the electives. Six different courses will be offered for three 8-week periods (two courses per period), during which classes will meet twice per week for 100 minutes in the afternoons. Students will be participating in one elective per 8-week period. Each class is open to all grades and will be led by Todd, Bobbie or Bailey.

Middle School Electives
The 1960's
  • Introduce this decade as the “times of change” focusing on the Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam War, Counterculture, and the Anti-War Movement
  • Examine the cause and effects each movement had on society
  • Prepare a 60’s Dinner as a class fundraiser including dress, music, art, and food of the times
Astronomy
  • Explore the beginnings of the Universe and stories of the stars, from scientific and mythological standpoints
  • Learn about space technologies and their impact on our everyday lives
  • Includes star-gazing field trip
Life Skills
  • Students will construct a lesson plan of a special talent or skill to teach their classmates
  • Students will teach a “hands-on” class from their plan
  • Students will design a bulletin board about their classes and collect photos for the yearbook
Media Literacy
  • Analyze the images, words and sounds that make up mass media (in magazines, film, television, song lyrics, internet, advertising, etc.)
  • Evaluate media’s role in influencing adolescent behavior, the political environment, self-image, and the “selling of cool”
  • Create messages using a variety of media tools
Shakespeare
  • Explore Elizabethan England and the life and works of William Shakespeare
  • Discover tragedies, comedies, histories and sonnets
  • Produce scenes and monologues, both on-stage and behind the scenes
Watershed Study
  • Investigate the environmental services of watersheds and their importance to our communities
  • Study how watersheds are linked to the formation of our surroundings and ways of caring for our watersheds
  • Includes watershed field trip
